Tony Hyser of Twin Cities Premier Plumbing: Zero Hours, a Subaru, and Protecting His Sleep at Night

Tony Hyser started Twin Cities Premier Plumbing out of a Subaru the week COVID shut the world down, with zero registered apprentice hours next to his name. We get into getting legal with a master plumber, the AI command center he runs the shop on, an Ask Tony channel for the crew, and his hot take on private equity in home services.

Tony Hyser of Twin Cities Premier Plumbing on the Reasonable Contractor podcast

Tony Hyser did his plumbing apprenticeship in Winona, worked new construction and service in Colorado, and came home to Minnesota for two weeks of side work he lined up with a Facebook post. The day after he got home, COVID shut the world down. Two weeks later his sister's best friend called about a leaking toilet and offered to sit in the other room. That call became Twin Cities Premier Plumbing. He built it out of a Subaru with hand tools and no license, because the boss who said he was registering his apprentice hours never did. Zero, right next to his name on the state website. Today a master plumber partner holds the license and runs the field, and Tony runs growth, admin and customer relations with an AI setup he calls his command center. It knows his goals, it flags what matters, and it tells him when he's about to burn a day on work that won't move the business. Then he delivers his hot take on private equity in home services, and why he protects his ability to sleep at night.

Reasonable Tech Dad (00:00)

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Reasonable Contractor Podcast. I am your host, the Reasonable Tech Dad, Ryan Templin, here with a new friend, Tony Hyser today from Twin Cities Premier Plumbing out of St. Louis Park. Dude. Uh Tony, you got a great Facebook page, great Instagram page. I like your website, the message you got. Uh why don't you tell us your story, dude? Thanks for coming on. How'd you get started?

Tony Hyser (00:23)

Ryan, that's high praise, man. I appreciate it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (00:26)

Definitely.

Tony Hyser (00:26)

We've been working really hard on that the past probably eight months or so. So

Reasonable Tech Dad (00:31)

You can tell.

Tony Hyser (00:31)

to hear you say that means a lot. Um yeah, I was born and raised in Crystal. Um I did my plumbing apprenticeship down in Winona, Minnesota, mainly in commercial industrial type stuff. Like if you are familiar with Fastenal, I was on their floor a lot. Doing process piping, machinery,

Reasonable Tech Dad (00:54)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (00:54)

connections, stuff like that. Um, eventually I moved out to Colorado and I worked for some guys out there. I did some new construction out there, then I got into service, and that's kind of where I learned how to do the the residential side of plumbing. And then I was in between jobs out there, made a post on Facebook, so it's funny you say that, to a bunch of friends and family. And I was just like, Hey, like, I'm gonna come back home for a couple of weeks. If anybody needs any work done, I'll be happy to help.

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:28)

Did you have a license by then?

Tony Hyser (01:30)

Nope, that's a good question. Hold that one. We should

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:32)

Roger

Tony Hyser (01:33)

get into

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:33)

that.

Tony Hyser (01:33)

that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:33)

We

Tony Hyser (01:33)

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:33)

love stories.

Tony Hyser (01:34)

Um,

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:34)

Tony Hyser (01:34)

yeah. Um and so I made that post. People got back to me. I scheduled probably like two weeks worth of work. And the day after I got home is when COVID shut the whole world down.

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:47)

Shut.

Tony Hyser (01:48)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (01:48)

Tony Hyser (01:48)

So I reached out to everybody and I was like, let's do the two weeks thing. I was just hanging out at my parents' place, which at the time like I was thankful to be at my parents' house. Cause

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:00)

I

Tony Hyser (02:00)

you

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:00)

bet.

Tony Hyser (02:00)

know, we all like actually look back on that time. We were all actually kind of nervous. We didn't know what was happening. Nobody knew where the world was gonna be.

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:07)

I had young

Tony Hyser (02:08)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:08)

kids,

Tony Hyser (02:08)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:08)

buddy.

Tony Hyser (02:08)

was

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:08)

I'm

Tony Hyser (02:09)

like,

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:09)

I'm on the same page. So

Tony Hyser (02:10)

sure.

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:10)

like we don't it's easy

Tony Hyser (02:11)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:11)

to look back now and have confidence, but back then it wasn't like that.

Tony Hyser (02:13)

We didn't know if we would feel as normal as we do right now, you

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:17)

Correct.

Tony Hyser (02:17)

know? So

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:17)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (02:17)

that's interesting to think about. But I was doing the grocery runs for my parents and stuff like that. But two weeks passed and my sister's best friend Katrina reached out and was like, Hey Tony, like my toilet is leaking. I'll just sit in the other room, we can social distance it. Uh but can you come fix this? And I like, Sure. So I reached out to everybody, I had schedules, told 'em we'll do the you sit in the other room kind of thing.

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:41)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (02:42)

And that is like the seed that planted Twin Cities Premier Plumbing.

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:46)

I bet

Tony Hyser (02:46)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (02:46)

you were busy.

Tony Hyser (02:48)

I did like I said, it was really low-key back then. I had a Subaru out back, which I still have today, um, and hand tools and your drill and a power saw, you know, and I just did very basic stuff. I didn't do the crazy hardcore plumbing back then. It was change your toilet, change your faucet kind of things. Fix leaks here and there. But Um, I'm gonna segue into your question about licensing because uh to answer that question no, I actually did this super illegally, which I had to kinda fly under the radar in the beginning because I did my apprenticeship down in Winona and the guy that I was working for at the time told me he was registering my hours. So I had like three years worth of experience that I thought was registered.

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:38)

Dude, I did the same path. Well I'll I'll r add

Tony Hyser (03:40)

Okay,

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:41)

in later,

Tony Hyser (03:41)

let's

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:41)

but

Tony Hyser (03:41)

we'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:41)

finish

Tony Hyser (03:41)

get

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:41)

that

Tony Hyser (03:42)

into

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:42)

train

Tony Hyser (03:42)

it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (03:42)

of thought.

Tony Hyser (03:42)

Yeah, 'cause this is like hot take. This is people don't realize how common this is for contractors to like be told that they're apprentices and their hours are not getting registered and signed off on. And I told so I tell every apprentice that comes into my company, registering your hours is on you. I learned that the hard way. I just assumed I could trust this guy to register my hours. When I went to go like get ready to take my test in Colorado. I needed Minnesota to verify my hours. So I called my old boss and he told me, Yeah, just go online. Your your hours are listed on the Minnesota State website. So I looked it up and it was zero right next to my name. So that was shortly before COVID. I don't even know how many months I went through that whole process and then I was like, Well, I'm not not starting over, man. You know, a lot

Reasonable Tech Dad (04:36)

Chao.

Tony Hyser (04:36)

of people have started their careers over. Then COVID happened, and I think that was like I remember my business start your own business teacher in high school. He had a think a thing on the wall, like those motivational posters, and it was crisis opportunity, like the

Reasonable Tech Dad (04:54)

Yeah.

Tony Hyser (04:55)

Yeah, and I remember that, and I went, Well, this crisis could be a really awesome opportunity to just not work for people anymore, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:06)

For you.

Tony Hyser (05:06)

So I took that opportunity Started I did those two weeks worth of work. That turned into another two weeks worth of referrals. I was actually disc golfing a ton at the time. If you saw my Facebook, I don't know if you saw which one you saw, but I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:20)

I

Tony Hyser (05:20)

also

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:21)

didn't go that far back. I had just

Tony Hyser (05:22)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:22)

looked at

Tony Hyser (05:22)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:22)

a little bit

Tony Hyser (05:22)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:22)

from recent

Tony Hyser (05:23)

I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:23)

stuff.

Tony Hyser (05:23)

a I'm a competitive disc golfer on the side. That's like my my adult

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:27)

That's

Tony Hyser (05:27)

hobby.

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:27)

a passion of yours. Sick,

Tony Hyser (05:28)

Yeah, yeah. And so there's a

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:30)

dude.

Tony Hyser (05:30)

lot of me uh you if you dig on the internet you can find me doing that with some of my friends.

Reasonable Tech Dad (05:34)

Okay.

Tony Hyser (05:34)

Um but then it was like okay I'm kinda drying up with my referral work here. Do I want to go home in Colorado? Didn't really have a job there. But I had I have a huge like my family knows people in this area. It's really low-key. Like just my dad has a ton of friends. My mom has a ton of friends. My sisters have a ton of friends. I have a ton of friends. And that like from Crystal, it kinda just there is a web. And people Call me here and there, but I like, all right, well, I probably could turn this into a business here, as much as I don't want to have a plumbing business in my life, but

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:10)

Is

Tony Hyser (06:10)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:10)

that really

Tony Hyser (06:10)

c I

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:11)

your mindset

Tony Hyser (06:11)

could. Dude,

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:11)

you didn't want to have a plumbing business?

Tony Hyser (06:13)

it's I just knew how stressful it would be, man. Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:16)

Got it. That's good o good

Tony Hyser (06:18)

as

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:19)

honesty, dude.

Tony Hyser (06:19)

yeah, as an aspiring entrepreneur, like I had the lemonade stand as a kid. I was trying to sell this and that. Any hobby I had, I was trying to think about how I could make money from it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:28)

Hustlers are alike,

Tony Hyser (06:29)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:29)

buddy. Hustlers

Tony Hyser (06:30)

It's it was

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:30)

are

Tony Hyser (06:31)

in

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:31)

alike.

Tony Hyser (06:31)

my blood. I was dreaming about it ever since I knew what a dollar could do for me. And I I remember being a plumber. My mom used to tell me all the time, why don't you just start a plumbing company one day? And I was like, Mom, I don't want to.

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:43)

Not

Tony Hyser (06:43)

Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:43)

interested. I've seen it.

Tony Hyser (06:44)

So much

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:45)

Seen

Tony Hyser (06:45)

BS.

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:45)

it.

Tony Hyser (06:46)

Like you like you you leak you you cause a leak in somebody's house and you're buying a new floor. Like I say that from experience. You know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:55)

Yeah,

Tony Hyser (06:55)

buying

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:55)

dude.

Tony Hyser (06:55)

new ceilings, you're taking on a lot of risk. People

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:58)

Stacy.

Tony Hyser (06:58)

are calling

Reasonable Tech Dad (06:59)

Tony Hyser (06:59)

to you with emergencies and you're their end all be all, like yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:03)

There's

Tony Hyser (07:03)

so

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:03)

pressure

Tony Hyser (07:03)

but

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:03)

times, there's pressure

Tony Hyser (07:04)

but

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:04)

filled times, there's rewarding.

Tony Hyser (07:06)

hey, that aged Tony had no idea about AI and what that would do

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:11)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (07:11)

and how

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:12)

Tony Hyser (07:12)

like think of a better business to start now than a plumbing business, if you have a skill.

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:18)

It's pretty

Tony Hyser (07:19)

Everybody's

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:19)

good.

Tony Hyser (07:20)

saying it, like it's that's the that's where a lot of people are wanting to be as home services and the the really the only way to do it right is to either have the skill or partner with somebody who does, you know?

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:31)

Well said.

Tony Hyser (07:32)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:33)

Well

Tony Hyser (07:33)

knowing

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:33)

said, dude.

Tony Hyser (07:33)

that I didn't have a license, I needed to hustle and like get legal as soon as possible. That was

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:40)

Okay,

Tony Hyser (07:40)

always the goal. I was

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:41)

yes.

Tony Hyser (07:41)

not gonna do this illegally forever. It was I knew the path, I got screwed. I'm not Gonna go do an apprenticeship for fifteen bucks an hour again.

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:50)

Good for

Tony Hyser (07:50)

Um,

Reasonable Tech Dad (07:50)

you.

Tony Hyser (07:50)

so I just started the business, did things that permits are, you know, not necessarily needed for. And then the goal was always to hire a master plumber who could hold the licensing. So then

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:02)

It's

Tony Hyser (08:02)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:02)

bold

Tony Hyser (08:02)

found,

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:03)

decision. Super

Tony Hyser (08:04)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:04)

bold decision.

Tony Hyser (08:05)

I found a nice uh, you know, in his sixties retirement age master plumber who was living part-time in Arizona in the winter months. And then he wanted to come back up here and work in the summer months. So that was he was really helpful and like he knew this market. I didn't know this market. He spent forty years in this market. I did my apprenticeship in Winona and did some in Colorado, but the Twin Cities very different market, you know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:35)

In

Tony Hyser (08:36)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:36)

which ways? I love that. Which ways? Can we double

Tony Hyser (08:38)

Pricing

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:38)

click on that?

Tony Hyser (08:38)

and demand, you know, like there's and competitiveness. In Winona, it's fascinating. I don't know what the market is like down there, but in Winona, fun fact, there's one family that kind of dominated the plumbing scene there.

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:54)

They just had the lockdown on it, the full

Tony Hyser (08:55)

I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:55)

market

Tony Hyser (08:55)

gonna keep

Reasonable Tech Dad (08:56)

share.

Tony Hyser (08:56)

their name quiet because it is the guy who told me he didn't r register my hours, but I still have a ton of respect for them, you know. Like learned an immense amount from these guys. Started out for the oldest brother. Then I ended up working for the youngest brother. But three brothers owned three plumbing companies in the

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:17)

Wow.

Tony Hyser (09:17)

small town of Winona. One

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:18)

Okay.

Tony Hyser (09:18)

of them was all residential with some commercial, the other was all commercial with some.

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:25)

Industrial

Tony Hyser (09:26)

residential

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:26)

and then they had the third

Tony Hyser (09:26)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:27)

piece.

Tony Hyser (09:27)

then the third one was all commercial, all res are all industrial,

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:31)

Industrial.

Tony Hyser (09:32)

no residential. Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:33)

Wow.

Tony Hyser (09:33)

And so I started out doing like a little bit of residential stuff. Then I went and worked for the industrial guy. And that was really fun. I got into some really interesting stuff. I hated it at the time, but looking back at it, like got to do some pretty cool things, you

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:47)

Dude,

Tony Hyser (09:47)

know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:47)

so just to jump in on that, because that was my exact same path. I have a two year tech uh construction electrician from Anoka Tech, graduated

Tony Hyser (09:55)

Okay,

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:56)

oh

Tony Hyser (09:56)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (09:56)

seven, went down to um Le Sueur, Minnesota at a cheese facility, and there was supposed to be a master, and three years came by and that was gut wrenching. I had about two years in change, went to go see where my hours were at. Oh, it was uh

Tony Hyser (10:12)

Really?

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:13)

the financial crisis rather than COVID.

Tony Hyser (10:15)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:15)

Two thousand nine, ten. Um, Master's been gone, hours, donut. That's

Tony Hyser (10:21)

Dang.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:22)

that

Tony Hyser (10:22)

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:22)

was

Tony Hyser (10:22)

Yeah, it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:23)

and

Tony Hyser (10:23)

so

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:23)

now

Tony Hyser (10:23)

common, people don't realize it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:25)

it's crazy, right? And

Tony Hyser (10:26)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:26)

I was I was furious, dude. Not to mention heartbroken and dev like took the wind out of me. Like I'm two years, I'm like, man, I got this test, like and the code book was always easy for me. Like, I'm like, This is it, dude. I got my three

Tony Hyser (10:38)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:39)

years and I

Tony Hyser (10:39)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:39)

and I s but I only brought I only jumped in there because um ah Anybody, we talk a lot about young people in the trades on this podcast. And anybody that doubts how cool electric or industrial is, you should check it out. You should

Tony Hyser (10:50)

Seriously,

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:50)

be open to

Tony Hyser (10:51)

you

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:51)

it.

Tony Hyser (10:51)

wanna build cool stuff. That's cool. That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:53)

It's

Tony Hyser (10:53)

a good point.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:54)

Tony Hyser (10:54)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:54)

automate like mechanical automation

Tony Hyser (10:56)

Mm-hmm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:56)

and pneumatics and you start getting into hydraulics

Tony Hyser (10:58)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (10:58)

and pumps and like oh dude, that's it's for people that don't you know what I mean, it's not just about house wiring. There's other cool stuff you can get into the trades and do and industrial in particular.

Tony Hyser (11:08)

I had

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:08)

Just

Tony Hyser (11:08)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:08)

throwing

Tony Hyser (11:09)

exact

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:09)

it out there.

Tony Hyser (11:09)

conversation with a buddy of mine recently. He was talking about I think he's turning thirty. He uh wants to know if there's a different path. He likes that I have a trade, you know. People tell me that all the time. Love that you have a trade that you can like. So yeah, if you want you wanna learn a skill, you wanna go anywhere in the world. Learn a skill and if you learn one of the top three, electrician, plumber, or HVAC, everywhere in the world wants those people. You

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:38)

All

Tony Hyser (11:38)

can

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:38)

day.

Tony Hyser (11:38)

go anywhere.

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:39)

In

Tony Hyser (11:39)

The

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:40)

in

Tony Hyser (11:40)

codes

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:40)

dire

Tony Hyser (11:40)

are different.

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:40)

need. So

Tony Hyser (11:41)

They do

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:41)

Tony Hyser (11:42)

things

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:42)

that

Tony Hyser (11:42)

differently.

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:42)

takes the segment.

Tony Hyser (11:42)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:43)

Kids, jump in. We need you.

Tony Hyser (11:45)

Seriously.

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:45)

Everybody,

Tony Hyser (11:46)

Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:46)

dude. There's

Tony Hyser (11:46)

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:46)

doubt and there's fear. Don't

Tony Hyser (11:47)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:48)

have it

Tony Hyser (11:48)

Reasonable Tech Dad (11:48)

in the trades. It gets flexibility. It gets everything.

Tony Hyser (11:50)

Yeah, when I started out, people kind of thought electricians were a dying trade. And everybody that I talked to was like, yeah, the union's got a ton of 'em on the bench. Like, you don't really want to get into electricians. Um

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:04)

That was the exact

Tony Hyser (12:04)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:04)

story they gave me when I graduated. The

Tony Hyser (12:06)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:06)

exact

Tony Hyser (12:06)

said that was

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:07)

story.

Tony Hyser (12:07)

oh nine, oh ten? Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:08)

2007, I graduated, and that poor the only job placement they did at Anoka, they brought this poor, poor um union rep in. And

Tony Hyser (12:16)

Oh

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:17)

I

Tony Hyser (12:17)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:17)

sat

Tony Hyser (12:17)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:17)

front and center with my notes and started shaking him down. And he he was not giving good answers. Like 680

Tony Hyser (12:22)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:23)

guys sitting

Tony Hyser (12:23)

Which

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:23)

on the

Tony Hyser (12:23)

is

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:23)

bench. And I had them kind of like, uh uh uh not trying to be a jerk, but like looking for answers. Like, tell me what's really going on. You know what

Tony Hyser (12:31)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:31)

I mean? And

Tony Hyser (12:32)

I love that you did that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:33)

Uh well,

Tony Hyser (12:34)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:34)

like

Tony Hyser (12:34)

Well

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:34)

I wasn't playing around. Like I put

Tony Hyser (12:35)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:36)

I went hard on that I paid for that cash as I went, waiting tables. Like I went

Tony Hyser (12:39)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:39)

hard those two years. I'm like, don't play around.

Tony Hyser (12:41)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:41)

I

Tony Hyser (12:41)

didn't

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:41)

need the answers.

Tony Hyser (12:42)

yeah, good for you. I didn't go to school. There's no way I would have ever wanted to go to school for it, but I'm just a rebel, you know. But

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:49)

Yeah, I

Tony Hyser (12:49)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:49)

feel

Tony Hyser (12:50)

fascinating

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:50)

it.

Tony Hyser (12:50)

because now you think about it, electricians are incredibly in high demand now in the industrial sector because of these

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:58)

The data

Tony Hyser (12:59)

if

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:59)

centers

Tony Hyser (12:59)

but

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:59)

and

Tony Hyser (12:59)

however

Reasonable Tech Dad (12:59)

everything.

Tony Hyser (13:00)

you feel about them, data centers are happening, you

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:02)

Yes,

Tony Hyser (13:02)

know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:02)

they

Tony Hyser (13:03)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:03)

are. That's

Tony Hyser (13:03)

the world

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:03)

the truth.

Tony Hyser (13:03)

is going AI and these things are going to get built. However, you feel about it, they'll get built in places that you no longer care about. They'll find them. And electricians are going to be the ones who build them and they need them. And I actually was talking to uh an AI about it. And it was just talking about how the the rise in electrical demand has surpassed HVAC and plumbing right now.

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:30)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (13:30)

Because and it's it's probably by like 15 to 20 percent. Nothing insane, but It is there. The wages are comparable, you know, and like I was just going off of union because union always gives you a good baseline.

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:42)

Yes, it does.

Tony Hyser (13:44)

Um, but those guys are the ones who are building the data centers and building all

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:48)

No

Tony Hyser (13:48)

this

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:48)

question.

Tony Hyser (13:49)

infrastructure. So

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:50)

And it's not going like the like the demand is for the next decade is endless, right? Like

Tony Hyser (13:55)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:55)

not not not going away,

Tony Hyser (13:57)

People

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:57)

not

Tony Hyser (13:57)

don't

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:57)

changing.

Tony Hyser (13:58)

wanna do it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (13:58)

Tony Hyser (13:59)

Kids do I do talk to kids who do wanna do it, but they don't know how much goes into it, you know, and we'll see how Gen Z adopts as they are entering that age where they're getting into it, you know. And it's just comes down to like who wants to do the work, I guess, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:14)

There 'cause there is a mental toughness factor in in a trade in initial like I would say for that kind of work, I don't know if you would agree, but I think that there's a mental toughness factor that maybe some kids that um may or may not be ready for, you know what I mean?

Tony Hyser (14:26)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:26)

Tony Hyser (14:27)

Oh

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:27)

Um

Tony Hyser (14:27)

a hundred

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:27)

s

Tony Hyser (14:27)

percent.

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:27)

some of the

Tony Hyser (14:28)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:28)

the

Tony Hyser (14:28)

had

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:28)

grittiness

Tony Hyser (14:28)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:29)

that's required to survive in the trade comparatively to how they might have been raised, just because of the nature of the world at the moment.

Tony Hyser (14:35)

I had a guy ask me once, he's like a I used to own a company and he's like one of the questions I would ask somebody in an interview is, um, Would you ever pick up a human turd with your bare hand? And he was like, If anybody ever asked me that, I would just say, Don't you mean have I? you know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:52)

Tony Hyser (14:52)

he's like some people just have it in them. Like I watched

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:55)

What

Tony Hyser (14:55)

the guy

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:55)

a good

Tony Hyser (14:56)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (14:56)

answer.

Tony Hyser (14:56)

the guy that taught me everything I know, he I he gained my respect when he just took his sleeve up like this. And just reach down

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:05)

And

Tony Hyser (15:05)

into

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:05)

do

Tony Hyser (15:05)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:05)

a toilet.

Tony Hyser (15:05)

sewer pipe that was backed up because he couldn't figure out why the cable wasn't going. He just starts pulling out rocks. Like some kid probably flushed rocks, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:15)

What a guy.

Tony Hyser (15:15)

He just he's

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:16)

What

Tony Hyser (15:16)

pulling

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:16)

a guy.

Tony Hyser (15:16)

out and then he

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:17)

I

Tony Hyser (15:17)

goes

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:17)

love

Tony Hyser (15:17)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:17)

it,

Tony Hyser (15:17)

he

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:17)

dude.

Tony Hyser (15:17)

grabs a

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:18)

I love it.

Tony Hyser (15:19)

um he grabs a bottle of bleach and he just dumps it on his arm over the utility sink. And I was like,

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:24)

Chemicals

Tony Hyser (15:24)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:25)

fuck

Tony Hyser (15:27)

And

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:27)

me

Tony Hyser (15:27)

when

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:27)

No

Tony Hyser (15:27)

I was

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:27)

big

Tony Hyser (15:28)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:28)

deal.

Tony Hyser (15:28)

age, I

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:28)

Tony Hyser (15:28)

would I was probably twenty two years old and I was like, fuck that, man.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:32)

That's

Tony Hyser (15:32)

I don't wanna

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:33)

that's

Tony Hyser (15:33)

do that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:33)

my kind You oh

Tony Hyser (15:34)

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:34)

you at the twenty two?

Tony Hyser (15:35)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:35)

You were like, No way. I think right, maybe you think it's cool now.

Tony Hyser (15:38)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:38)

Uh

Tony Hyser (15:39)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:39)

was

Tony Hyser (15:39)

used

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:39)

that

Tony Hyser (15:39)

to tell

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:39)

the old guy f that you mentioned? I say old guy, but the the mentor that you had for Minnesota?

Tony Hyser (15:43)

He's old now and if he's watching this he knows uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:47)

He's laughing

Tony Hyser (15:47)

he

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:47)

probably

Tony Hyser (15:47)

knows who

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:48)

right

Tony Hyser (15:48)

he

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:48)

now.

Tony Hyser (15:48)

is.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:48)

Tony Hyser (15:48)

Yeah, no, he's he was not old at the time. It's funny because he's he was the age that I am now when he did

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:56)

Hmm.

Tony Hyser (15:56)

that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:56)

Tony Hyser (15:57)

And it's like,

Reasonable Tech Dad (15:57)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (15:57)

okay, now I'm that age when I used to give him shit, you know. But he used to always tell me uh ah plumbing's easy, dude. He's like, I could do this with my eyes closed. And I was just like, No, Chris, like this shit sucks. It's so hard. There's so many things you gotta remember, so many rules, so many like and we were doing industrial stuff, so we were getting into weird stuff. And he's like, you can do this with your eyes closed. And then probably like five years in, I'm in Colorado, and that's when it was like,

Reasonable Tech Dad (16:28)

No

Tony Hyser (16:28)

Shit's

Reasonable Tech Dad (16:28)

problem.

Tony Hyser (16:29)

easy, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (16:29)

Yeah, no problem.

Tony Hyser (16:30)

I could do this.

Reasonable Tech Dad (16:31)

Tony Hyser (16:31)

And then you learn the residential side, and on the residential side is where you get to be people's heroes, you know, and that's where people are like really, really appreciative of what you do. In new construction, the G Cs and the soups, they're just they they want you to go faster, it doesn't matter how fast you go. Every time you go faster for 'em, they pat you on the back and say, All right, you're gonna go faster now.

Reasonable Tech Dad (16:53)

Yep, go fast.

Tony Hyser (16:55)

Yep. Commercials cool because you get to build cool things. But I'm a people person. So I think I had a guy ask me this the other day, like, what would you recommend for anybody wanting to become a plumber? Because he's our mechanic. Does all of our fleets like repairs on our on our vans. And he's like, My son, you know, he's a mechanic and he doesn't want to be a mechanic. He likes working with his hands, but he wants to do something different. I said, well, you know, if you want to be a plumber, you can join the union because you'll build things and then learn how things work and how things are built. Excuse me. Or you can um do residential construction and same thing. You're building things. But I also said you could do drain cleaning. If you do drain cleaning, you're kind of touching some of it, and you're gonna get surrounded by it, and you're gonna taste the worst of it. And if you can get through that, then the doors kinda open up because you can see what there is for it. And you can go, you get a taste of it without really fully committing. But it is the worst. That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (18:02)

Tony Hyser (18:03)

what your trade-off is.

Reasonable Tech Dad (18:04)

Yeah, absolutely.

Tony Hyser (18:04)

And it's funny because my business partner, who is my current master plumber um on our team, who holds all the licensing for me because I never got my license, um, he's actually an old buddy of mine from high school. And he took the drain cleaning route. So I'm Tony. Jason is my master plumber business partner who he runs the field. I run like business growth and admin and customer relations. He took the drain cleaning route where if you go and just do drain cleaning, you'll make like a lower wage, but you get taste of it. And you then he ran his own drain cleaning company, and then he was like, No, I want to get my plumbing license. Like I wanna I wanna make real money rather than working 12 hour days trying to fit in. 15 sewers, 12 sewers, 8 sewers in a day. Um, working from dark until dark. Get your plumber's license and do the fun stuff. So then he got his license, he did his apprenticeship, he got his journeymans, then he got his journeyman comps, then he took his master's test. Now he's working on his master's comps. And once he achieves that, he's kind of won the

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:14)

Set.

Tony Hyser (19:14)

game in plumbing.

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:14)

Set.

Tony Hyser (19:15)

He's

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:15)

Yeah.

Tony Hyser (19:15)

got what he needs. He can take it anywhere.

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:17)

Level ten on the video game for sure

Tony Hyser (19:19)

Yep.

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:19)

you're a level

Tony Hyser (19:19)

If he ever

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:19)

ten.

Tony Hyser (19:20)

wants to tell

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:20)

Tony Hyser (19:20)

me, sorry, Tony, I don't like the way you do business, he could go run his own. Like that, that's truly if in the new world of you want security and AI

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:30)

Freedom.

Tony Hyser (19:30)

is taking over everybody's job, get your plumbing license, get your electrical license. Uh I don't know what the regulations are for HVAC. We go through that. You can get into the trades like carpentry painting, you know, but those are gonna be probably the first ones that get replaced by robots. But if you learn the basics of how things are built and how to fix them. We're always gonna need humans to fix things. I I I think that will always be a

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:55)

Correct.

Tony Hyser (19:55)

thing, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (19:56)

Now, I let you finish, but as kind of an AI guy, I

Tony Hyser (20:01)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:01)

do have to I do have to push back on the current narrative of taking jobs. Now, we're all in agreement that things

Tony Hyser (20:07)

No,

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:07)

are gonna

Tony Hyser (20:07)

I'd love

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:07)

change.

Tony Hyser (20:07)

to hear it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:08)

Tony Hyser (20:08)

Yeah. Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:09)

Uh the the straight data right now is that over a million jobs have been created by AI. And

Tony Hyser (20:14)

Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:14)

most of

Tony Hyser (20:15)

see

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:15)

the the

Tony Hyser (20:15)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:15)

coding

Tony Hyser (20:15)

was waiting

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:16)

the

Tony Hyser (20:16)

for that to come out, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:17)

Every single person you talked about the data centers. I'm sure the trades are a huge part of that number. I didn't read

Tony Hyser (20:23)

Mm-hmm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:23)

deep

Tony Hyser (20:23)

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:23)

into it. And it's a report, take it for what it's worth, obviously, right? A poll. But um I think by and large AI has shown that it is going to generate more well, for the time being, it is generating more jobs than it's eliminating. No questions on the math. And I think that's because a productivity piece and we don't I mean we can get into it. It sounds like you're a little bit of an AI guy. We can't. We can dig

Tony Hyser (20:48)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:48)

on

Tony Hyser (20:48)

am,

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:48)

that.

Tony Hyser (20:48)

I am, yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:49)

Uh so I'd love your thoughts, but the loose data I've seen without a ton of details is that it's creating more jobs. And

Tony Hyser (20:55)

No,

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:56)

that

Tony Hyser (20:56)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:56)

has

Tony Hyser (20:56)

figured

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:56)

been

Tony Hyser (20:56)

it would.

Reasonable Tech Dad (20:56)

the fear mongering. Like it's gonna take everything. Even in coding, there's still more coders at this time than there was last year.

Tony Hyser (21:03)

It's just a tool, you know, and

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:05)

Thank

Tony Hyser (21:05)

the

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:05)

you.

Tony Hyser (21:05)

the the

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:06)

Thank

Tony Hyser (21:06)

argument

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:06)

you for saying

Tony Hyser (21:07)

yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:07)

that.

Tony Hyser (21:07)

yeah. The argument that I've heard that I'm waiting because it's not a fully developed tool yet,

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:14)

Well

Tony Hyser (21:14)

is

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:14)

said.

Tony Hyser (21:14)

that we've created tools in the past, but we've never created tools that can think for themselves. You know, and so it's interesting to have that element into a tool that can truly think for itself in a way. But I don't know all the tech side of it. All I know is it's taken my job as an entrepreneur and gave me the most powerful tool in humans history for merchants. Like, there are a ton of applications. I don't know any of 'em outside of what I use it for. I can

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:44)

I know

Tony Hyser (21:45)

come

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

a ton

Tony Hyser (21:45)

up

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

of

Tony Hyser (21:45)

with

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

them.

Tony Hyser (21:45)

some

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

Let's

Tony Hyser (21:45)

if

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

get

Tony Hyser (21:45)

you

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:45)

into

Tony Hyser (21:46)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:46)

it. What do you use it for, dude? What

Tony Hyser (21:47)

Um

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:47)

did you first,

Tony Hyser (21:47)

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:48)

what was your first AI moment? What did you do first? Walk, walk us through that,

Tony Hyser (21:51)

That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (21:51)

dude.

Tony Hyser (21:51)

a good question. My business coach, I've been working with him for like four years or so now, nudged me down it. Like, hey, there's this thing, you know, like I'm pretty sure he would we were coming up with some like copy for the website, and he introduced me to this tool called Jasper. And that like was an AI made for copywriting. And he was like, We're just gonna use this and we'll create some basic stuff. You can tweak it how you want. He was able to just pump out a bunch of stuff. And I was like, wow, that's actually okay. I like that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:20)

Did

Tony Hyser (22:20)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:20)

it

Tony Hyser (22:20)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:21)

give you

Tony Hyser (22:21)

all

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:21)

a

Tony Hyser (22:21)

that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:21)

bunch of iterations

Tony Hyser (22:21)

Not

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:22)

on the same idea to kind of pick from and combine?

Tony Hyser (22:24)

Kinda. Yeah, it was the basic level it if anybody was messing around with stuff back then, probably twenty

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:28)

I was.

Tony Hyser (22:29)

twenty three, twenty

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:30)

Yeah?

Tony Hyser (22:30)

twenty four. Um yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:32)

I was even a little before that, like the ChatGPT three five first release. And then those Jasper I correct me if I'm wrong, but I Jasper and a lot of those tools were just rappers as they called them. They were just

Tony Hyser (22:41)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:41)

some

Tony Hyser (22:41)

believe

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:41)

modif

Tony Hyser (22:42)

so.

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:42)

modified

Tony Hyser (22:42)

And

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:42)

version

Tony Hyser (22:43)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:43)

of those models.

Tony Hyser (22:43)

was the era I came in. I don't remember which numbers they were at, but that was the

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:47)

Sure.

Tony Hyser (22:47)

era I came in.

Reasonable Tech Dad (22:48)

Continue.

Tony Hyser (22:49)

Um and then I started learning, you know, they released projects and I went, well that's fascinating. Like you can bundle a bunch of information into one file, if you will.

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:00)

That was huge. That

Tony Hyser (23:01)

That

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:01)

was

Tony Hyser (23:01)

was

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:01)

huge

Tony Hyser (23:01)

massive.

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:02)

moment. That

Tony Hyser (23:02)

That

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:02)

was

Tony Hyser (23:02)

was

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:02)

huge

Tony Hyser (23:03)

massive.

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:03)

moment.

Tony Hyser (23:03)

Because I have ADHD for sure. I've never actually been like diagnosed, but the symptoms are there. I

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:09)

Ha

Tony Hyser (23:10)

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:10)

ha ha

Tony Hyser (23:10)

and I uh I can't remember things good, but when

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:14)

Tony Hyser (23:15)

I do remember them, like I'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:16)

You

Tony Hyser (23:16)

feel

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:16)

dial

Tony Hyser (23:17)

them.

Reasonable Tech Dad (23:17)

in.

Tony Hyser (23:17)

I'll feel them in my soul, man. It'll be like, oh you didn't call that person. And there are people who will attest, be like, Tony, there are times where you don't think of that shit at all, you know, and it's like, you're not wrong. I am kind of a scatter brain. People who know me would agree. AI can take all of my scatter brain thoughts and formulate them and tell me, no, Tony. Work on this thing because this is the thing that's gonna move the business forward. This is your highest priority item. You might it it literally tells me this, Tony. You're gonna spend a lot of time doing this, and it's gonna feel like you did something positive and like that it's gonna move the business forward. You're gonna spend a lot of time and not get a lot of reward from it. You need to call these people or you need to create this thing. And now it knows my goals. Not on just a business level, but on a personal level, and it helps me stay aligned to that. Like if your goal is to X, Y, or Z, this is the step you would take in that regard. And so I have like my main command center project that knows everything about what I'm doing in the business. I always bring everything there and then it tells me which sub project to go into.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:27)

So you have those set up in a in I I'm assuming on either a desktop app or a browser app for either ChatGPT or Anthropic, for Claude?

Tony Hyser (24:34)

I use Claude, yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:35)

Yeah, Cloud's

Tony Hyser (24:36)

I like

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:36)

my go

Tony Hyser (24:36)

Claude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:37)

to. Are you do

Tony Hyser (24:37)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:38)

you

Tony Hyser (24:38)

have

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:38)

use

Tony Hyser (24:38)

both.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:38)

code now or do you use the Cowork app? The desktop

Tony Hyser (24:41)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:41)

app?

Tony Hyser (24:41)

it one day flipped me on Cowork on its own

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:44)

Yeah,

Tony Hyser (24:44)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:45)

they

Tony Hyser (24:45)

I was

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:45)

made it

Tony Hyser (24:45)

shocked.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:45)

they made everybody on it.

Tony Hyser (24:47)

All of a sudden it was just doing everything for me instead

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:49)

Scheduled

Tony Hyser (24:49)

of telling me how

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:50)

routines.

Tony Hyser (24:50)

to do it and I

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:50)

Tony Hyser (24:50)

was like

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:51)

Because

Tony Hyser (24:51)

wow.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:51)

you had built that s command center project though,

Tony Hyser (24:54)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (24:54)

because you had given it such critical context and take which I'm sure you did, you built out what we talk about on here lots, a a second brain or a company brain, those kind of ideas. Uh it sounds similar to your command center, where just to clarify for people that haven't done this before, what he's talking about, where it knows your goals, it knows your business, it knows your service or product list. Knows your prices, it knows your daily task, it knows the sequence of events or actions that are triggered once a customer buys, and it's able to help you do those things faster because it's because you give it that context over time. You give it literally just notes and text files that allow the model to read and then make these decisions and help you think the way that you're talking

Tony Hyser (25:39)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:39)

about,

Tony Hyser (25:39)

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:39)

right? Am I am

Tony Hyser (25:40)

Hundred

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:40)

I thinking about it

Tony Hyser (25:40)

percent

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:40)

correctly? You've got a

Tony Hyser (25:41)

for

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:41)

project

Tony Hyser (25:41)

sure.

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:41)

set structure built

Tony Hyser (25:42)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:42)

like that?

Tony Hyser (25:43)

it started shocking me 'cause it's creating the documents for me.

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:47)

It's helping you build

Tony Hyser (25:48)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:49)

the

Tony Hyser (25:49)

so

Reasonable Tech Dad (25:49)

brain.

Tony Hyser (25:49)

fast after I've already told it what it wants. Like when we started out, Ryan, you know, you had to prompt you had to craft your prompt well to get a good response. It was all about prompting. You ain't gotta do that no more. You just talk

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:02)

No.

Tony Hyser (26:03)

to it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:03)

No.

Tony Hyser (26:04)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:04)

It

Tony Hyser (26:04)

just talk

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:04)

knows

Tony Hyser (26:04)

to

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:04)

the

Tony Hyser (26:04)

it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:04)

intent.

Tony Hyser (26:05)

And it

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:05)

It's

Tony Hyser (26:05)

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:05)

it picks

Tony Hyser (26:06)

it

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:06)

up on

Tony Hyser (26:06)

always

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:06)

your intent.

Tony Hyser (26:06)

end your prompt with ask me questions to gain more context. And it will. uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:15)

It's so dialed. I used to say

Tony Hyser (26:16)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:16)

so,

Tony Hyser (26:17)

pisses

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:17)

put push

Tony Hyser (26:17)

me off.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:17)

back where I'm off base was one of my

Tony Hyser (26:19)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:19)

favorites to finish with. Or

Tony Hyser (26:20)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:20)

be can talk a lot of people

Tony Hyser (26:22)

Mine

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:22)

said, talk

Tony Hyser (26:22)

does.

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:22)

to me like I'm a five-year-old, you know what mean?

Tony Hyser (26:24)

Mine pisses

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:25)

And

Tony Hyser (26:25)

me off sometimes. It's like, hey dude, like you're this is here's another here's another idea, Tony. Like, is this really what we were trying to do this. Did you do that? And I love it because

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:35)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (26:35)

it knows

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:36)

Tony Hyser (26:36)

and it identified my boom bust personality trait, which I never knew it even existed, but I just kind of described like these are my habits. I I go hard into something. And then I burn out. And I go hard into something and I burn out. It's like, well, that's called this. And so if we consider that into things, we can adjust for it and

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:55)

Can

Tony Hyser (26:55)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:55)

I ask

Tony Hyser (26:56)

Reasonable Tech Dad (26:56)

the term it came up with? Because I have my AI brain has identified something we've talked about on the show for me called an engineer trap, where

Tony Hyser (27:03)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:03)

I get so caught up in ideas where I start building, and this podcast

Tony Hyser (27:06)

Uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:06)

started

Tony Hyser (27:08)

love

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:08)

as

Tony Hyser (27:08)

that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:08)

Tony Hyser (27:08)

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:08)

a solution for that. Because when I came into AI in late 22, I was working at my dad's lumberyard and I was drawing prints, and I built him out like I went in total engineer mode. Like I can build Coolest shit you've ever seen, and it was gonna automate the whole lumber yard industry.

Tony Hyser (27:25)

Yes.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:26)

And I spent like six, eight months building this super complex app, right? Because then it could write code, and I'm a little bit of a coder. I went geeked out on it. I

Tony Hyser (27:33)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:33)

brought it to him. He's like, this shit's not gonna work.

Tony Hyser (27:36)

That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:38)

And he

Tony Hyser (27:38)

another

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:39)

was

Tony Hyser (27:39)

thing.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:39)

right.

Tony Hyser (27:40)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (27:40)

He was right.

Tony Hyser (27:42)

I actually heard a lot of people or heard somebody say to your point earlier of like, is it gonna take jobs? Like, there's not a lot of stuff that's come out yet that's been super crazy life changing in that regard, that it's taking away jobs because it still needs people to guide it, you know. Like you have to You have to be creative with how you use it. It took

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:08)

Just

Tony Hyser (28:09)

me

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:09)

a tour.

Tony Hyser (28:09)

it

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:10)

It's

Tony Hyser (28:10)

took

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:10)

just

Tony Hyser (28:10)

me three

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:10)

a tour.

Tony Hyser (28:10)

years to come up with the way that I do it, where I have my different projects. I have my main brain and then I have a sh a document that lives as the master context. So anytime we talk about something in there, it it goes, oh, that was important. Let's add that to the master context. And then I put that in my drive and then I can have that added to each project. You just recycle them in. And eventually it's gonna be so good that that master context file will one hundred percent live in Claude. And it'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:40)

And

Tony Hyser (28:40)

just

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:40)

it'll

Tony Hyser (28:40)

no

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:40)

and it'll be able to run itself. I mean it I

Tony Hyser (28:42)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:42)

say

Tony Hyser (28:43)

can

Reasonable Tech Dad (28:43)

run itself.

Tony Hyser (28:43)

kind of right now, and I've talked to it about it, and it's like we don't want the full thing in there because I can remember key things across projects, but across projects it's limited. So each project is only limited to the amount of context you put into that project, which is its limitation for me. I can't wait for them to release the feature where you can connect different projects to shared memory. That will be life-changing for me.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:11)

So you can do that now, my friend.

Tony Hyser (29:13)

How do you do that?

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:13)

You

Tony Hyser (29:14)

And

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:14)

can do that now.

Tony Hyser (29:15)

Claude?

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:16)

Well, you can now. We get into this

Tony Hyser (29:18)

Tell

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:18)

thing

Tony Hyser (29:18)

me, tell me Ryan, you're probably gonna make my life so easy, dude. 'Cause

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:21)

So

Tony Hyser (29:22)

I'm I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:22)

Tony Hyser (29:22)

probably not even scratching the surface, man.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:24)

you're talking about one of my main products, man. Yeah.

Tony Hyser (29:27)

Okay, okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:28)

Tony Hyser (29:28)

Well look at that. I didn't even know about it, man. Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:33)

Tony Hyser (29:33)

He's

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:33)

I

Tony Hyser (29:33)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:33)

build

Tony Hyser (29:33)

Tony.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:34)

second

Tony Hyser (29:34)

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:34)

brain. That's one of my main pro so

Tony Hyser (29:35)

That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:36)

one of my

Tony Hyser (29:36)

why

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:36)

two.

Tony Hyser (29:36)

I love to come into these things raw, man. Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:39)

Yeah,

Tony Hyser (29:39)

I don't

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:39)

dude.

Tony Hyser (29:39)

do a whole lot of background. I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:41)

No

Tony Hyser (29:41)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:41)

scripts here, folks. No,

Tony Hyser (29:42)

Yep.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:43)

no, no

Tony Hyser (29:43)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:43)

scripts.

Tony Hyser (29:43)

am just

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:44)

Tony Hyser (29:44)

a I wanna talk to human beings and when I get invited onto these things, like that's who you're getting is I didn't look you up. I didn't do any background. I'm walking in talking to a person. No,

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:53)

I

Tony Hyser (29:53)

I'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:53)

give

Tony Hyser (29:53)

probably

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:53)

it 10

Tony Hyser (29:54)

deep

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:54)

minutes

Tony Hyser (29:54)

dive,

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:54)

right

Tony Hyser (29:54)

but

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:54)

before we walked on. So I I'm a little I do a little

Tony Hyser (29:57)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:57)

bit just because I have to host, right? I gotta

Tony Hyser (29:59)

For

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:59)

I gotta

Tony Hyser (29:59)

sure.

Reasonable Tech Dad (29:59)

have at least

Tony Hyser (30:00)

Hundred

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:00)

10 minutes

Tony Hyser (30:00)

percent.

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:00)

of background.

Tony Hyser (30:01)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:01)

Tony Hyser (30:01)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:02)

Um but

Tony Hyser (30:03)

But

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:03)

so

Tony Hyser (30:03)

yep, I love that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:04)

two main products for my business are one are an AI assessment where we sit down for 45 minutes, give you a handful of bottlenecks that your business could get tools for, and you get like a nine page report. You can do what you want with that. I can help you with that, you can build it yourself. The other main product I do is I build brains for companies, especially construction guys, or could because the obviously have the lumber yard background, I do project management now. And the brain piece, you are already set up in Anthropic. Now when you said when I asked you if you used Claude Code or uh desktop or and now it's Cowork. Um

Tony Hyser (30:38)

Mm-hmm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (30:39)

I asked that for that exact reason because when you're in Cowork you are limited by their structure even though um uh it's got a ton of functionality it's also simpler to use and simpler to connect those pieces the way you did. Claude Code gives you the complete freedom. And you can actually build a brain in a way, the way I like to build them and the way I'm trying to point people towards without getting into the super heavy geek, the ICM model. uh

Tony Hyser (31:04)

No. I

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:08)

The

Tony Hyser (31:08)

love

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:08)

ICM

Tony Hyser (31:08)

it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:09)

structure allows you to have everything, Tony, in files and folders. So everything that you've built in Claude, and when I was pointing at it's just text files. That's all

Tony Hyser (31:17)

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:17)

of

Tony Hyser (31:18)

Mm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:18)

your markdown, right?

Tony Hyser (31:18)

Yeah. Yep.

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:19)

So you can have on a local computer just files and folders that basically have all that context labeled and pointed at each other the way it is in Anthropic. And say Anthropic, which I'm sure you've experienced, Anthropic has downtime for a day or whatever, right? Um basically the short of it is that that by having that brain built in a local f file and folder structure, you can plug any tool into it. And it leaves you free to not be connected to AI models, providers,

Tony Hyser (31:48)

I was just

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:48)

and

Tony Hyser (31:48)

thinking about that today.

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:51)

keeps

Tony Hyser (31:51)

Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:51)

your data

Tony Hyser (31:51)

the

Reasonable Tech Dad (31:52)

in in your hands as well.

Tony Hyser (31:53)

Yeah, exactly. And that's that's huge for me, you know. I don't want my customers' data floating around and God

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:00)

It's gonna

Tony Hyser (32:01)

knows

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:01)

be

Tony Hyser (32:01)

where.

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:01)

a tough

Tony Hyser (32:01)

Does

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:01)

game and it is a new

Tony Hyser (32:02)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:02)

Tony Hyser (32:02)

mean that is that something that people are buying um like the Raspberry Pis or the Apple

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:09)

Mac minis.

Tony Hyser (32:09)

the Mac minis for?

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:11)

That I would say is more for well, yes, if you want to do complete privacy, that's where a lot of that's coming from, because then you're talking about using open source models. So there's OpenAI and Anthropic and Grok and Google's line of models. Those are all what people call frontier models. The capability is a little bit higher, but you do give the cost of privacy. An open source model runs on your local machine. That's what people buy the Mac minis for, the Raspberry Pi. There's a million ways to do it. And then you run a, you download the parameters for a model, the weights for a model, and then you run that model locally. And a lot

Tony Hyser (32:48)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (32:48)

of the open source, I without going too far down the geek hole, um, a lot of the open source models are really good right now. And if you have data that you're concerned about, you can run local models that keep that data local on any machine that you want.

Tony Hyser (33:01)

Interesting. Yeah, that's just like the the the tech side of it is exploding right now. You

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:07)

It's

Tony Hyser (33:07)

know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:07)

insane.

Tony Hyser (33:07)

like there's just so much use case coming out of it that that's really what I that's probably like the best use case for anybody who and even the creative type of people. Like you can log so many let all the the left side brain stuff happen with AI and let that sort all the calendar stuff, the invoicing, the the boring parts of being

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:31)

How

Tony Hyser (33:31)

creative.

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:31)

about just writing it all down?

Tony Hyser (33:33)

Yeah. Just recording it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:34)

Just

Tony Hyser (33:34)

And then you

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:35)

not

Tony Hyser (33:35)

can be

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:35)

having

Tony Hyser (33:35)

creative.

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:35)

to write it all down, being able

Tony Hyser (33:37)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (33:37)

to dump your ideas and have it put in a way that you can just tell it how to put it together.

Tony Hyser (33:41)

Yep. Exactly. It's it's shocking what it can do and I still barely scratch the surface, but that's really what I'm and I've always been leaning towards is creating the projects to create the context where over time, you know, it has talked to me so much that my guys can just go into Tony's brain project and ask me a question that's like if it's a basic question and I was just thinking about that today, I could probably link it through Slack where

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:11)

Tony Hyser (34:11)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:11)

You

Tony Hyser (34:11)

can

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:11)

took

Tony Hyser (34:11)

read

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:12)

the question

Tony Hyser (34:12)

Slack messages.

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:12)

out of my mouth. Continue.

Tony Hyser (34:13)

Yeah. It can read s if anybody asks me a question in Slack, if I just make a conversation in Slack where it's just ask Tony. You take your Tony questions there and it just records it over time. Then you just have AI look at that conversation history and anytime anybody has a question while I'm on vacation, you ask the AI Tony first. If Tony if that Tony doesn't give you a sufficient answer, then call me, you know?

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:38)

That's really cool idea, dude. That's a

Tony Hyser (34:40)

Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:40)

really cool

Tony Hyser (34:40)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (34:40)

idea.

Tony Hyser (34:40)

feel like that could be so huge for entrepreneurs that are just feeling overwhelmed. Like like I said, I I boom and I bust. I burn out. I'm kind of in a burnout phase right now where I'm like, information overload because I'm building these systems and one of 'em is linking to Housecall Pro. And I've been using Housecall Pro for like three years now, but there's been so much history of untagged jobs with no

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:05)

Dirty

Tony Hyser (35:05)

notes.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:06)

data, buddy.

Tony Hyser (35:07)

Dirty

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:07)

Dirty

Tony Hyser (35:07)

data.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:07)

data

Tony Hyser (35:08)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:08)

when you start trying to tie these AI systems into your old stuff.

Tony Hyser (35:11)

That's what I'm saying, like, do I hire a VA to go in and kinda clean it up? Can AI do it? Can Claude

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:17)

AI

Tony Hyser (35:17)

do

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:17)

can

Tony Hyser (35:17)

it?

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:17)

do it.

Tony Hyser (35:17)

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:18)

AI can do it. Cloud

Tony Hyser (35:19)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:19)

can do it. If

Tony Hyser (35:20)

maybe

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:20)

you now

Tony Hyser (35:20)

we need

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:20)

if

Tony Hyser (35:20)

to

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:20)

you

Tony Hyser (35:21)

have

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:21)

have

Tony Hyser (35:21)

another

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:21)

the connectors,

Tony Hyser (35:21)

conversation.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:21)

I don't wanna

Tony Hyser (35:22)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:22)

what what was the name of it? Trusted I I it was one of the three big ones, right?

Tony Hyser (35:26)

What's that?

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:27)

Which pro which software you've been using for three

Tony Hyser (35:29)

House

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:29)

years?

Tony Hyser (35:29)

Call Pro.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:30)

That's one of the bigger ones I believe.

Tony Hyser (35:31)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:32)

Um

Tony Hyser (35:32)

Yeah. It's like service Titan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:36)

Thank you.

Tony Hyser (35:36)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:36)

Yes. Um ah it would I'd be curious to dig into what their MCP connecture connectors are, because the MCP connectors, and at least in JobTread, where we use it, really gives you a lot of good connected or connectability to those existing data sets. Um and then you can talk to it like we were talking about. And

Tony Hyser (35:55)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:55)

ask

Tony Hyser (35:55)

should

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:55)

it like this is

Tony Hyser (35:56)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (35:56)

my this is where it this is how my data is sorted, and it'll look at again, geeky terms, it'll look at the database schema. And tell you how that existing schema is built and how it needs to be built for your brain system, and it can it could probably do a lot of that for you.

Tony Hyser (36:10)

Yeah, like

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:11)

It's

Tony Hyser (36:11)

what I really need is to go back through and tag jobs. Faucet, kitchen sink.

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:16)

That's it, that's the only piece you think the rest of

Tony Hyser (36:18)

Oh,

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:18)

it's pr

Tony Hyser (36:18)

th

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:18)

built

Tony Hyser (36:18)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:18)

pretty

Tony Hyser (36:19)

will

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:19)

well.

Tony Hyser (36:19)

be huge. You know, Housecall Pro itself can do a ton, but it d it needs tagging data to work on what it does well,

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:27)

Interesting.

Tony Hyser (36:27)

like pulling

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:28)

Tony Hyser (36:28)

reports. If I tag things properly, I can pull a bunch of data. But if there's no nothing in like it's not pulling that history from the notes. And I didn't have a good tagging structure in my mind when I started out. I'm just a regular old plumber.

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:42)

Right.

Tony Hyser (36:42)

But now, like, that's on my to-do list to use Claude to help me come up with a good tagging structure to do what we're trying to do so that the back end office can do what they need to do using Housecall Pro's new features.

Reasonable Tech Dad (36:53)

Yeah, dude.

Tony Hyser (36:54)

And they just Housecall Pro just took the max plan from like 320 to 620. So I'd imagine they have some wicked features coming through with

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:05)

Six hundred

Tony Hyser (37:05)

AI.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:05)

and

Tony Hyser (37:05)

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:05)

twenty oh to the price? Okay.

Tony Hyser (37:07)

Yeah, a month or whatever.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:09)

Got

Tony Hyser (37:09)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:09)

it.

Tony Hyser (37:09)

know, basically all I know is I like doubled it. They just went, Everybody's on this plan now. You guys are all paying paying us a bunch more money. But they released a whole new like they revamped the entire thing around their pipeline product, which I was just literally today looking at, going, Wow, this actually solves a lot of the things that I was trying to think about how to do. And I was going to use GoHighLevel to do it, but the connections were kinda clunky. And now I'm looking into Housecall Pro going, Wow, this has that feature. This has

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:38)

They're grabbing

Tony Hyser (37:38)

that feature.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:39)

they're j they

Tony Hyser (37:39)

Okay.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:39)

were just

Tony Hyser (37:39)

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:40)

watching it the whole time and that's that's kind of the the

Tony Hyser (37:42)

That's

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:42)

AI

Tony Hyser (37:42)

what

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:42)

business

Tony Hyser (37:42)

they've been

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:43)

game

Tony Hyser (37:43)

doing.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:43)

in general.

Tony Hyser (37:44)

Seeing

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:44)

Like you

Tony Hyser (37:44)

what

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:44)

can

Tony Hyser (37:44)

everybody else is doing and building it in their suite, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:47)

And you can build it fast. They don't it's not like old enterpr the the companies that are keeping up anyway. Not all the companies

Tony Hyser (37:52)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (37:53)

are keeping up. But the companies that are keeping up and watching that and putting this AI functionality in like JobTread is, uh, they're way ahead of the game. Way ahead of the game because it it really does do exactly what you said. It takes stuff that I, you know, could help people build if they're not as savvy as you might be. Um and it just kind of does it for 'em a little bit. Right?

Tony Hyser (38:13)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:13)

'Cause they're if their data's already there and it's like you if you if you could go into that one and say, Tag my data this way, you know, this is what makes a a job a faucet job, tag all

Tony Hyser (38:23)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:23)

those faucet jobs. You'd cruise through that so quick, you

Tony Hyser (38:26)

Right.

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:26)

know what I mean?

Tony Hyser (38:26)

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:26)

Tony Hyser (38:27)

And

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:27)

So that's

Tony Hyser (38:27)

that's

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:27)

interesting. When did they do that price switch? I'm curious.

Tony Hyser (38:31)

It's happening right now. Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:32)

Got it.

Tony Hyser (38:33)

one of the guys that I know that uses it is already getting charged it. I think it's just every time you I'm pretty sure I pay for the yearly cost

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:42)

Sure.

Tony Hyser (38:42)

and it's just uh it charges you when it's hit when it renews

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:47)

When

Tony Hyser (38:47)

your

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:47)

you

Tony Hyser (38:47)

billing

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:47)

renew,

Tony Hyser (38:47)

cycle

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:47)

you go

Tony Hyser (38:47)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:47)

up to

Tony Hyser (38:48)

gonna

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:48)

the new

Tony Hyser (38:48)

be

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:48)

sp

Tony Hyser (38:48)

there. And

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:48)

new

Tony Hyser (38:48)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (38:48)

price.

Tony Hyser (38:48)

looked it up and I was like, Oh yeah, it is li listed as that now. And I am awful with numbers. I don't know if that's the monthly or the yearly. I would imagine it's the monthly 'cause it is a pretty powerful piece of software

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:00)

Me

Tony Hyser (39:00)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:00)

too.

Tony Hyser (39:00)

contractors rely on.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:02)

Yep.

Tony Hyser (39:02)

So

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:03)

Sounds like a going rate three twenty would have been

Tony Hyser (39:05)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:05)

before

Tony Hyser (39:05)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:05)

anything.

Tony Hyser (39:06)

lot of contractors in a Housecall Pro Facebook group, you know, there's a lot of things that we gripe about in there, but I think a lot of people are not even using it to the capabilities that it is available for. And

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:18)

I would agree.

Tony Hyser (39:18)

if you there's not a lot of training on it out there. There's not a lot of resources as far as like here's a great way to set up a plumbing company in Housecall Pro. Tag it this way and do these things. Like They don't really have a lot of that. They have a great FAQ system that answers a ton of questions and you can dig through that and kind of teach yourself.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:38)

Sure.

Tony Hyser (39:38)

But it's not presented in a learnable structure, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:41)

No.

Tony Hyser (39:41)

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:42)

And for

Tony Hyser (39:42)

Um

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:42)

guys that are doing both, as I'm sure you know, if you're out in the field and running the business, there's not

Tony Hyser (39:46)

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:46)

a ton

Tony Hyser (39:46)

Mm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:47)

of time for that either,

Tony Hyser (39:47)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:47)

dude.

Tony Hyser (39:47)

would imagine there's people out there that make money just to consult on that to set it up for you.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:52)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (39:53)

I don't know of any.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:54)

Yeah.

Tony Hyser (39:54)

Could could Google that or something, but

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:56)

No doubt

Tony Hyser (39:56)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:56)

about it.

Tony Hyser (39:58)

Nice.

Reasonable Tech Dad (39:59)

So then, if you got AEI working in your corner, is everything good over there, dude? Nothing challenging? What are the goals for right now for

Tony Hyser (40:05)

Oh

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:05)

Twin

Tony Hyser (40:05)

my god,

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:05)

Cities

Tony Hyser (40:06)

dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:06)

Premiere?

Tony Hyser (40:06)

It's the hardest

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:06)

What do you

Tony Hyser (40:06)

thing I've

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:07)

Tony Hyser (40:07)

ever done in my life.

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:09)

guys mess with you? That's what I was That's

Tony Hyser (40:11)

God dang it. Yeah, it sounds

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:12)

why I said

Tony Hyser (40:13)

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:13)

it like that. Nothing's wrong, right? It's

Tony Hyser (40:15)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:15)

easy,

Tony Hyser (40:15)

lot

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:15)

isn't

Tony Hyser (40:15)

of people

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:15)

it?

Tony Hyser (40:16)

a lot of people think I'm cruising along, you know, just

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:19)

Tony Hyser (40:19)

doing great and

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:19)

Yeah.

Tony Hyser (40:19)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:20)

uh

Tony Hyser (40:20)

oh my gosh, it's still so stressful. Like right now, you know, I'm trying to build things that I don't know how to build, so I have to learn how to build them and then build them. And then try to learn how to teach them, you know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (40:32)

Sure.

Tony Hyser (40:32)

and that's entrepreneurship if I could say it in a weird sentence like that, that's what it is. It's and I tell my guys, like, they're out crushing it in the field. My job is to make the phone ring more. I need to build systems to do that. Those are systems I've never built before. It's stuff I've never done. It's jobs I've never been taught how to do. So I have to figure it out. Then I have to do it. And then I have to teach somebody how to do it if we're gonna keep doing it. And so that's one of the probably the biggest struggles for me is like st Just trying to find the time to support the team because they might need trash hauled away from a big job where I've got all three plumbers on one job and they're not they're trying to knock it out in a day, so we don't gotta come back tomorrow. I'm not gonna ask them to stay and clean up until dark. I will be there. Pile it up out on the street and I'll pull

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:22)

Love

Tony Hyser (41:23)

I'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:23)

that.

Tony Hyser (41:23)

haul that stuff away,

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:23)

I

Tony Hyser (41:24)

you know?

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:24)

love that about you.

Tony Hyser (41:25)

So it's trying to juggle all of it like. There are things I have scheduled that I do every week at the same time. And there are times where I'm like, maybe I could do more of that. And then I burn out. And it's like, so you're just juggling it all. You know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:39)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (41:39)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:40)

Tony Hyser (41:40)

how can I make the content right? Like record the videos. I try to do a lot of it on the fly. But there's a lot of videos I need to record that have just been on the back burner. And making the phone ring is always the number one priority. So that's the system I'm building right now. Like I want to build the the rock

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:58)

The lead

Tony Hyser (41:58)

solid

Reasonable Tech Dad (41:59)

system.

Tony Hyser (41:59)

admin admin system to then create a real true demand generator, if you will, to pump into that admin system, you know.

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:09)

Can I ask, um, can we get into some metrics on leads, dude? Like so your G

Tony Hyser (42:13)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:14)

your G and B like three what is it, three sixty nine, three forty nine, your Google business profile. So

Tony Hyser (42:18)

Something

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:18)

if you've got

Tony Hyser (42:18)

like that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:19)

three hundred and fifty and your act are you posting to that like you're posting to Facebook?

Tony Hyser (42:24)

I was. I do have a web guy now who was kinda taking that profile over and I have to like that's recent, so I need to give him better content for that, I think.

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:35)

You don't

Tony Hyser (42:36)

Uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:36)

like the videos? Do you think your content that you have now is uh 'cause I

Tony Hyser (42:40)

I haven't

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:40)

feel like

Tony Hyser (42:40)

looked at the GMB in a while since

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:42)

Yeah.

Tony Hyser (42:42)

he took it over and we were actually that's been kind of fragile because we switched our address. Anybody know who knows how

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:51)

Dicey,

Tony Hyser (42:51)

to

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:51)

that's fucking

Tony Hyser (42:52)

dude

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:52)

dicey, dude.

Tony Hyser (42:54)

anybody

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:54)

Touching

Tony Hyser (42:54)

who's

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:54)

anything

Tony Hyser (42:54)

got

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:55)

like an address or a phone number on a Google business profile right

Tony Hyser (42:58)

It

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:58)

now.

Tony Hyser (42:58)

was

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:58)

Tony Hyser (42:59)

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:59)

Have you

Tony Hyser (42:59)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:59)

heard

Tony Hyser (42:59)

was

Reasonable Tech Dad (42:59)

the

Tony Hyser (43:00)

just

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:00)

horror

Tony Hyser (43:00)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:00)

stories for

Tony Hyser (43:00)

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:00)

dude? Like how

Tony Hyser (43:01)

all

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:01)

long

Tony Hyser (43:02)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:02)

people's

Tony Hyser (43:02)

kept telling

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:02)

Tony Hyser (43:02)

myself, Ryan,

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:03)

Oh

Tony Hyser (43:03)

is

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:03)

Tony Hyser (43:04)

we'll win eventually. Like wal

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:07)

I

Tony Hyser (43:07)

win

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:07)

like

Tony Hyser (43:07)

eventually

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:07)

it.

Tony Hyser (43:08)

and it was probably a three month process from like Grafton doing all of the um citation updates, telling the whole wide world where we are, you know, and then doing the physical things, having all the stuff, getting the physical location, getting it set as a nightmare, but We are now verified on there, so I haven't l I haven't touched it, I just wanna look at it. Um but yeah, I I was posting to that for a while and I want to do better posts there, obviously. I want my website to show some different things. I want to like I really just want to announce to the neighborhoods that we're here now. And

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:46)

Yeah,

Tony Hyser (43:46)

I was flying

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:46)

yelling

Tony Hyser (43:46)

under the radar

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:47)

from the rooftops,

Tony Hyser (43:47)

for the longest

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:48)

putty.

Tony Hyser (43:48)

time. Yep, and just tell 'em here, there, everywhere.

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:53)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (43:53)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:53)

Tony Hyser (43:53)

here's where we are, here's what we're up to, here's why we do it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:56)

Oh, I love

Tony Hyser (43:57)

And

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:57)

the

Tony Hyser (43:57)

uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:57)

ambition, dude. It

Tony Hyser (43:58)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (43:58)

gets me fired up. People that want to make systems that generate leads.

Tony Hyser (44:01)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:01)

That that's my

Tony Hyser (44:02)

Well

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:02)

game. I love that game.

Tony Hyser (44:03)

Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:04)

Tony Hyser (44:04)

we

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:04)

I

Tony Hyser (44:04)

should

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:04)

love

Tony Hyser (44:04)

talk more

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:04)

that

Tony Hyser (44:05)

about

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:05)

game,

Tony Hyser (44:05)

it.

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:05)

dude.

Tony Hyser (44:05)

We

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:05)

Tony Hyser (44:05)

should

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:05)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (44:05)

talk more about it 'cause like the automation side of home service businesses is where I think the real growth is.

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:11)

Dude, so

Tony Hyser (44:11)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:11)

check

Tony Hyser (44:11)

know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:12)

out what

Tony Hyser (44:12)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:12)

I just

Tony Hyser (44:12)

the next

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:12)

built.

Tony Hyser (44:12)

generation, so

Reasonable Tech Dad (44:13)

I just built this for the podcast. And anybody listening, this is this is geeky, but this is cool. And contractor guys will love this. So uh when we finish this episode, right, uh the studio software I use will generate 15 to 20 clips between fif cut up into the social lengths, 15 seconds, one minute, and then segments like three to four, and it'll have a copy of the episode. For all of those 15 to 20 clips and the episode, as soon as we shut this off, Tony, I'll show you. You're gonna have your clips too. Uh, because I'm gonna send them to you. I'll get into that. It's gonna have captions on it of all of our transcript already. It's gonna have my branding around it, my logo put on the video, and I have to do none of that. I'm not playing. Like I'll push me and you will push stop on this, and then it'll upload both of our sides. And right now I just finished a system last weekend that it's in Claude Code. It downloads all of those, because uh other what I used to have to do is inside the software I would have to click all 20 of those and download the transcript and then download the video. There are web tools that you can connect to Claude that now it does that clicking for me and connects to the browser for me, so I don't have to do any of that babysitting. It downloads all of those files for me, puts them on my local machine. Codsworth is my geeky fallout name for my Claude brain. It's got its own personality. We've talked about Codsworth

Tony Hyser (45:36)

Nice.

Reasonable Tech Dad (45:36)

before. It s

Tony Hyser (45:37)

Dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (45:37)

it writes captions based on the transcript for all 20 of those clips and d uses that same browser tool to post to all four of my social medias with the caption and the video without me having to touch it.

Tony Hyser (45:52)

Yeah, that's and a lot of people don't know how to do that stuff, which is where the opportunity lies, right?

Reasonable Tech Dad (45:59)

It's

Tony Hyser (45:59)

So that's

Reasonable Tech Dad (45:59)

and

Tony Hyser (46:00)

epic. Yeah, we should talk more because that's stuff I think about and I get overwhelmed. Like, I don't how to build that, you know. I

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:05)

I'm here for you, buddy. Um we can

Tony Hyser (46:06)

don't

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:06)

definitely talk more. I am happy to

Tony Hyser (46:08)

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:08)

help. I

Tony Hyser (46:08)

know

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:08)

am

Tony Hyser (46:09)

how

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:09)

dude

Tony Hyser (46:09)

to build

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:09)

you

Tony Hyser (46:09)

that. I know how to talk to customers, I know how to sell plumbing work, I know how to manage guys, I don't know how to build tech. But

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:16)

I cannot

Tony Hyser (46:16)

I know that

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:16)

tell you how much peace it has brought me to not have to post a video every day.

Tony Hyser (46:20)

Yeah, oh a hundred percent.

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:22)

It's been like two weeks and I'm just overwhelmed because I still check it, right? There's still

Tony Hyser (46:26)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:26)

you know, you watch it and um it's not fully YouTube still. I might have to push a button here and there, but it posts to Facebook, YouTube, X, and um I have Google Business Profile videos. It's all pushing to the same. And most of those I don't have to click. It's

Tony Hyser (46:42)

Love

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:42)

crazy.

Tony Hyser (46:42)

that, dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:43)

I come home and it schedules it and now I'm kind of am now I'm able to take that, like you say, that overarching brain and now I'm able to start playing with the schedule. Should I post it at twelve thirty? Should I post it at four thirty? And then

Tony Hyser (46:53)

Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:53)

it does

Tony Hyser (46:53)

and

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:53)

all

Tony Hyser (46:54)

that

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:54)

four

Tony Hyser (46:54)

dude,

Reasonable Tech Dad (46:54)

of them.

Tony Hyser (46:55)

it's that's like that makes me mad in some sense of like now it's just so hard. It it tech just levels it up every time. Now we we went from being able to post once a week, gotta post once a day, and then you gotta post twice a day. We're gonna have to post

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:10)

Keep

Tony Hyser (47:10)

fifty times

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:10)

up,

Tony Hyser (47:11)

a

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:11)

Tony Hyser (47:11)

day.

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:11)

keep up,

Tony Hyser (47:12)

Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:12)

the game's

Tony Hyser (47:12)

dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:12)

getting

Tony Hyser (47:12)

You gotta you're

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:12)

harder.

Tony Hyser (47:12)

gonna have

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:13)

Tony Hyser (47:13)

to pump it out if you

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:15)

We'd

Tony Hyser (47:15)

wanna win.

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:15)

get bored otherwise, right?

Tony Hyser (47:16)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:16)

Tony Hyser (47:17)

It's

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:17)

We'd

Tony Hyser (47:17)

but

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:17)

if

Tony Hyser (47:17)

like

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:17)

the game

Tony Hyser (47:18)

you said,

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:18)

didn't get

Tony Hyser (47:18)

there's

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:18)

harder.

Tony Hyser (47:19)

Everything evolves and everything's a competition in life and the really the bigger everything gets the more opportunity there is because

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:26)

Couldn't

Tony Hyser (47:26)

I

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:26)

agree

Tony Hyser (47:27)

used

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:27)

more.

Tony Hyser (47:27)

to wonder like how am I gonna get found on Google, you know? Over time I got a really dang good reputation on Google and now people talking to me about us on the internet, Google can see that and we're literally you type in what is Twin Cities Premier Plumbing all about into Google AI and it's gonna say like they talk about transparent pricing, we don't hard pressure sell anybody, you know, where you're just your friendly neighborhood plumber. Like Google's telling people that.

Reasonable Tech Dad (47:54)

That's amazing.

Tony Hyser (47:55)

Because of the stuff that we have in our reviews and what we put on our website and just like what I preach over and over and over again, even in my videos, is it's just provide value to your communities. That's what service is about.

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:08)

Could not agree more. Especially

Tony Hyser (48:09)

I don't

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:09)

when you talked about the small business, dude. Not to keep keep going

Tony Hyser (48:12)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:12)

on that thread.

Tony Hyser (48:13)

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:13)

I don't wanna distract.

Tony Hyser (48:14)

I I have a hot take, like I just I love to to debate it, but get private equity out of the home service industry.

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:21)

So gross,

Tony Hyser (48:22)

You

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:22)

dude.

Tony Hyser (48:22)

know? It's

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:22)

So gross. Like I get it.

Tony Hyser (48:25)

not how

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:25)

Um

Tony Hyser (48:25)

it should be done. You shouldn't

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:26)

no.

Tony Hyser (48:26)

be gobbling up five, ten co companies and then the amount of overhead that comes in being that large just prices people out. And now they're they're investing the m the amount of money their home is worth. into its basic mechanical systems just because your company is massive, it doesn't need to be that way. Like

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:45)

Does not

Tony Hyser (48:46)

you can

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:46)

and

Tony Hyser (48:46)

charge

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:46)

Tony Hyser (48:46)

reasonable prices and make good companies and have them at teams of like five to twelve people. And I always

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:53)

And putting

Tony Hyser (48:53)

tell people

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:54)

food on the table for fam local families, like you talked about one time. If you

Tony Hyser (48:58)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (48:58)

guys haven't seen it, go check out his Facebook post about the scrapper. You got a scrapper. I saw that

Tony Hyser (49:01)

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:02)

one.

Tony Hyser (49:02)

Oh, I love that you saw that one, yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:03)

And then the the team yourself, right? Building a business of like four or five high quality people, and there's somebody's close by and like you're providing for their families and they're providing for you know what I mean? Like building the community with small business is so

Tony Hyser (49:17)

Mm-hmm.

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:18)

key.

Tony Hyser (49:18)

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:18)

Um so I love that take. And the private equity thing, I don't Last three years would you say? Is it post-COVID? I don't know. Um, it's just gross because we've talked about it on the show multiple times and you can tell right now, anybody that has a decent like you're if you have a trade website, they you get six, seven, ten emails a day from somebody like, Hey, we'll buy

Tony Hyser (49:39)

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:39)

your shit. You know what I mean? We'll buy

Tony Hyser (49:41)

Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:41)

your whole

Tony Hyser (49:41)

they're

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:41)

company.

Tony Hyser (49:41)

hungry,

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:42)

Tony Hyser (49:42)

dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:42)

It's crazy,

Tony Hyser (49:43)

Well, if you

Reasonable Tech Dad (49:44)

dude.

Tony Hyser (49:44)

think about it this way, um in COVID, if you had a $5 million a year company, $10 million a year company during COVID, and your bra your company hit the brakes because everybody's huddling inside and doesn't want strangers in their house. Like the commercial guys kept operating, but the residential dudes, they sat home. They didn't like People weren't calling for plumbers during that time. So those residential five to ten million dollar companies slammed on the brakes. God knows what kind of expenses they still had. If they had debt, you know, now they're underwater because their revenue just went through the floor.

Reasonable Tech Dad (50:24)

Yes.

Tony Hyser (50:25)

And they have a ton of expenses they still have to pay on. Well, private equity smelled the blood in the water and went, Oh hey, don't worry. We'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (50:33)

Here's

Tony Hyser (50:33)

come,

Reasonable Tech Dad (50:33)

a check.

Tony Hyser (50:34)

we'll co we'll cover your existing debt. Um, we need you to stay on for two years. You need to reach this level of EBITDA, and then we'll hit you with a huge balloon payment at the end. But if you don't hit that level of EBITDA, you stay on until you do. And so they basically just came in and golden handcuffed these owners that had five to ten million dollar companies that were now underwater, had no really no choice, they got injected with funding, injected with private equity operations, and then told that they have to hit a certain metric so that private equity can make their make their cut.

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:09)

And they signed on the dotted line to that sentence.

Tony Hyser (51:12)

And how do they fund that? Well, they need to cycle through customers. They need to incentivize their techs to sell. And how do you incentivize your techs to sell? Is you offer them epic benefits and then incentivizations on dollar-related

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:29)

Commission.

Tony Hyser (51:30)

figures, commission, spiffs, whatever you want to call it, you bring in enough amount of money. Well, now they're like their success and their ability to feed their families. is tied to their ability to go get m old Miss Johnson to repiper basement.

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:47)

When she doesn't need it, she just needs a clan uh it needs the one piece.

Tony Hyser (51:49)

She she might need it someday. She if she can't afford it now, well, you live with yourself at that. Like,

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:57)

Tony Hyser (51:57)

if she wants to, she'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:58)

I

Tony Hyser (51:58)

always

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:58)

love

Tony Hyser (51:58)

have

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:58)

that

Tony Hyser (51:58)

the opportunity

Reasonable Tech Dad (51:59)

dude.

Tony Hyser (51:59)

with us. You

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:00)

I

Tony Hyser (52:00)

know,

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:00)

love

Tony Hyser (52:00)

like we'll

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:01)

that.

Tony Hyser (52:01)

have the bet we will have the conversation with her. But we're not going to hold her hand to the flame and make her feel like her whole world's gonna

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:08)

Her only

Tony Hyser (52:09)

end if

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:09)

option

Tony Hyser (52:09)

she doesn't.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:09)

is that try to take away

Tony Hyser (52:10)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:10)

oh you can't just replace

Tony Hyser (52:11)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:11)

that 'cause the whole system needs to be replaced.

Tony Hyser (52:13)

I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:13)

I hate

Tony Hyser (52:13)

in

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:14)

that

Tony Hyser (52:14)

the business

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:14)

one.

Tony Hyser (52:14)

of replacing people's pipes. Of course I want to do it all, and I want to. talk about that with you, but we have a a way that we do that. And that's just I'm not holding anybody's hand to the flame. You

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:24)

With

Tony Hyser (52:24)

can do

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:24)

some

Tony Hyser (52:24)

this

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:24)

integrity.

Tony Hyser (52:24)

or you can do that. What

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:25)

With

Tony Hyser (52:26)

do you

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:26)

some

Tony Hyser (52:26)

want

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:26)

integrity.

Tony Hyser (52:26)

to do? You

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:26)

Yeah,

Tony Hyser (52:26)

know? Yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:27)

dude. That's

Tony Hyser (52:28)

it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:28)

amazing.

Tony Hyser (52:29)

I I protect my ability to sleep at night. I'm

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:31)

Tony Hyser (52:31)

selfish. Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:33)

I love that,

Tony Hyser (52:34)

It's it's

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:34)

dude.

Tony Hyser (52:34)

not

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:35)

Tony Hyser (52:35)

yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:35)

I've

Tony Hyser (52:35)

Call

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:35)

I

Tony Hyser (52:36)

it what

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:36)

l

Tony Hyser (52:36)

you

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:36)

I've

Tony Hyser (52:36)

want.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:36)

never heard it said that way. I've talked to

Tony Hyser (52:37)

It's

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:38)

a lot

Tony Hyser (52:38)

selfish,

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:38)

of people. That's

Tony Hyser (52:38)

dude.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:38)

really good, dude.

Tony Hyser (52:39)

I need

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:39)

Tony Hyser (52:39)

to be able to sleep at night. Oh,

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:41)

I

Tony Hyser (52:41)

you

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:41)

protect

Tony Hyser (52:41)

know. Yep.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:42)

my

Tony Hyser (52:42)

uh

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:42)

ability to sleep at night. Man after my own heart, sir. I love it, dude.

Tony Hyser (52:47)

I've spent thousands protecting my ability to sleep at night. So

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:50)

Good for you, dude. I dude.

Tony Hyser (52:51)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (52:52)

Tony Hyser (52:52)

And that's I think that's what business is about. That's what small business should be about. That's what the trades should be about. And that's what, you know, home service should be about. If you're going in the end, if you're going to somebody's home, you're the guest. You know, they dictate they dictate the experience. Try and make them laugh. That's you're their guest. Try and make them laugh. That's my goal. Try and make them laugh. Um and just show them that you're there to help. And yes, we do have to charge, you know, we're we're not cheap. We don't qualify or we don't compete on pricing, we compete we compete on quality.

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:24)

value.

Tony Hyser (53:25)

So yeah. And how to have that conversation with people, it's a whole nother conversation. Um but

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:31)

I think that was I mean, we could me and you I feel I could go on all night, but we're going on an hour. Don't let me disrespect your time. I usually try to keep these,

Tony Hyser (53:38)

Oh,

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:38)

you know,

Tony Hyser (53:39)

yeah,

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:39)

reasonable

Tony Hyser (53:39)

that's

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:39)

for whatever,

Tony Hyser (53:39)

fine.

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:40)

man.

Tony Hyser (53:40)

Yep.

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:40)

Um, I think that that's a great place to wrap because you just laid it out what service should be and uh what trust should be and like how people should be walking in with the mindset of taking care of people.

Tony Hyser (53:53)

Yeah.

Reasonable Tech Dad (53:54)

Do it

Tony Hyser (53:54)

Well
